Greening Malaa area is at top gear

Baraka Hawali School sits in Malaa, Machakos County. Problem Free Movement fully sponsors the school so children from less fortunate homes can stay in class.

The institution involves local families in environmental conservation by providing tree seedlings. Each homestead around the school receives five seedlings in each rainy season.

On 14 December 2023, Kenya News Agency reported the greening work in the Kaseveni area of Malaa, Matungulu Sub-County — environmentalists and educationists restoring forest cover after extensive destruction. The planting is meant to shield a fast-growing town from floods and high winds that have torn roofs and spread illness such as pneumonia.

KNA recorded more than 5,000 trees planted that season. That is a press figure from the launch, not a PFWM audited total. Area Chief Thomas Mutua welcomed the work. Chrisphine Oluoch, named in the same report, has supplied seedlings and fruit trees so families can restore cover and harvest food.
